35 Years and Still Training America’s Lighting Distributors

35 Years and Still Training America’s Lighting Distributors

The National Association of Independent Lighting Distributors, or NAILD for short, is celebrating it’s 35th year of training members of the Lighting Industry.    The National Association of Independent Lighting Distributors (NAILD) was founded in 1977 by a small group of lighting distributors looking for a way to provide training and education to the staff of independent lighting distributors across the United States. Since it’s founding, NAILD has grown to well over 180 members. Membership in the association is made up of Specialty Lighting Distributors from across the country and Vendor/Manufacturers of lighting goods & supplies used in the operation of specialized lighting distributors. From compact fluorescent, metal halide, high pressure sodium, to now LED Lighting, NAILD has been the industry’s training organization.            Some of the main objectives of NAILD are to increase the effectiveness of the specialized lighting distributor through educational programs; to make available to members information pertaining to the distribution of lighting products; to develop marketing plans and programs through an exchange of ideas, networking and promote the need for and the benefits of providing quality lighting. Only Lighting Distributors and Vendor Distributors meeting NAILD’s requirements are invited to join NAILD.      One of the original founding members of NAILD was the late Joe Stevens, of Stevens Lighting Supply in Clearwater, Florida. In 2001, Frontier Lighting aquired Stevens Lighting Supply and felt that it was our responsibility to continue the legacy and efforts started by Joe Stevens and the other founding members and Frontier Lighting has been an active member since 2001, attending the annual training conferences which consist of Industry speakers, business round tables, and lighting training classes, (more…)

The Ultimate Identity Theft Ring

The Ultimate Identity Theft Ring

The Ultimate Identity Theft Ring !         All of us have heard about identity theft, where a person steals the identity of another, usually for financial  gain.  Years of a persons good reputation of promptly paying bills, managing money, and trying to be an overall good American Citizen, are stolen over a short period of time. This also happens to some businesses, mainly product  manufacturers, they are being increasingly victimized by a type of identity theft, one that substitues a cheap fake product  in lieu of the real thing. Not only does the manufacturer not make a profit on the sale of the fake product, their Brand  Name reputation is   now on the line for an inferior (maybe deadly) product that thier company never manufactured or authorized anyone else to make. Most of the time these products are manufactured in plants overseas and shipped into this country.  While these counterfeits products show up from many brands, such as Gucci and Rolex, the consequences however are much less deadly than in the electrical and lighting industries. Once viewed as a “victimless crime”, product counterfeiting is big business, estimated to cost the US economy between $200 billion to $250 billion dollars a year and is responsible for the loss of 750,000 American jobs.  How do these products get into the US markets, or get to the end users who purchased them?    The Value of Buying from Authorized Distributors!      Authorized distributors are wholesale distributors who have established an agreement to purchase directly from a specific lighting manufacturer. They must meet the manufacturer’s standards from sales to service in order to receive an authorized status. Most wholesale Lighting distributors (more…)

History is made at “The Rock” !

History is made at “The Rock” !

On This Day, There Was Going To Be A Game To Remember, Regardless of Who Won!    The location and date had been set; Clearwater, Florida August 26, 2011 at 7:30pm, just as the sun was starting to drop into the western sky. This was not just another hot summer day on Florida’s west coast. On this day, there was going to be a game to remember, regardless of who won. The uniforms helmets, and pads were all there, ready to go. Adrenline, anticipation and apprehension were high on both sides of the field as the appointed time drew near. The two teams had been training long and hard for this day, for this game, and they were ready to play.  The Kick off  itself Marked a Memorable Milestone! Facing off on the gridiron from Clearwater, Florida were the Calvary Christian High School Warriors and from Lakeland, Florida the Santa Fe Catholic High School’s Hawks. The kick off itself marked a memorable milestone, a memorable night at the “The Rock”, the name given to Calvary Christian High School’s new sports facility. The delightful smell of  un-healthy food wafted from the concession areas and carried through the spectator stands as parents cheered on their boys and their teams. As the hot summer day turned into a balmy Florida night, the game wore on, and after the last play of the game, and the referee’s final whistle blew, the new Daktronics JumboTron scoreboard showed that the boys from Lakeland Hawk’s had pulled off a win over their Clearwater rivals with a final score of 36 to 27, but everyone there from both sides had become a part of the (more…)

Rare Earth Metals Shortage Rocks the Lighting World

Rare Earth Metals Shortage Rocks the Lighting World

The pending Rare Earth Metals Shortage is a reason for concern for everyone! Effecting everything from fluorescent light bulbs to hybrid cars to national security.  What are Rare Earth Elements ?    While these  rare earth elements are not actually “rare” in the environment, nor are they “earth”, the name dates to the 18th and 19th centuries, when the elements were first isolated out of actually rare minerals. “Rare earth” stuck, but the elements themselves turned out to be pretty common, mixed in small concentrations in rocks worldwide.  A brief history of Rare Earth Elements:      Historically, unstable supply and demand and significant price fluctuations have been the norm in the rare earth elements (or rare earth metals) market. The 1980′s saw a rapid  increasing demand, followed by a substantial over supply in the early 1990′s. Until the early 1990′s most of the world’s supply of rare earth elements (or rare earth metals) where mined in the USA.  China entered the market in the early 90′s and by the late 1990′s China’s low cost production had flooded the market and driven most US companies out of the rare earth mining business. China today produces more that 95% of the world’s rare earth metals supply. Over the last few years, China has started cutting the amount of rare earth metals that they export each year, while global demand has been increasing annually, with the increased demand of rare earth metals used in everything from fluorescent light bulbs, wind turbines, telecommunications, defense technologies, magnets and more. How do Rare Earth Elements Effect Fluorescent Lighting ?    Rare earth phosphors are refined from rare earth ore and are a key component of general service (more…)

How Your Lighting Dollars get Spent !

How Your Lighting Dollars get Spent !

Looking at the Cost of Lighting!    When evaluating a new lighting system or reviewing an existing installation, keep in mind that the energy costs will be your single largest expenditure over the life of the light bulbs, and that it is a recurring monthly cost. By choosing energy efficient light bulbs you can target the largest single cost over the lamp life and help keep your energy expenses lower while, in many cases, providing better lighting levels and a better quality of light for your facility. Frontier Lighting is Florida’s leading provider of fluorescent, halogen, metal halide, induction and LED lighting and would be glad to help you select the best light bulb and ballast selections for your facility. Energy Saving Solutions: Lighting is the one of the electrical loads that can be significantly altered to produce energy savings for you while maintaining or even improving your current lighting levels. We have listed a few ideas for reducing your energy consumption. • Replace T12 lighting systems with energy efficient T8 or T5 electronic fluorescent ballast lighting systems • Use high frequency electronic fluorescent ballasts instead of magnetic ballasts • Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs • Implement a lighting maintenance plan in your facility (group re-lamping and disposal) • Install lighting controls (dimming instead of fixed light, occupancy sensors).   Frontier Lighting would be glad to help you accomplish any of these energy saving solutions. Since 1987 Frontier Lighting Supply has been providing businesses with quality light bulbs, ballasts, light fixtures, and cost effective lighting solutions.
