On This Day, There Was Going To Be A Game To Remember, Regardless of Who Won! The location and date had been set; Clearwater, Florida August 26, 2011 at 7:30pm, just as the sun was starting to drop into the western sky. This was not just another hot summer day on Florida’s west coast. On this day, there was going to be a game to remember, regardless of who won. The uniforms helmets, and pads were all there, ready to go. Adrenline, anticipation and apprehension were high on both sides of the field as the appointed time drew near. The two teams had been training long and hard for this day, for this game, and they were ready to play. The Kick off itself Marked a Memorable Milestone! Facing off on the gridiron from Clearwater, Florida were the Calvary Christian High School Warriors and from Lakeland, Florida the Santa Fe Catholic High School’s Hawks. The kick off itself marked a memorable milestone, a memorable night at the “The Rock”, the name given to Calvary Christian High School’s new sports facility. The delightful smell of un-healthy food wafted from the concession areas and carried through the spectator stands as parents cheered on their boys and their teams. As the hot summer day turned into a balmy Florida night, the game wore on, and after the last play of the game, and the referee’s final whistle blew, the new Daktronics JumboTron scoreboard showed that the boys from Lakeland Hawk’s had pulled off a win over their Clearwater rivals with a final score of 36 to 27, but everyone there from both sides had become a part of the (more…)

On the Lighter Side of Business – A visit to Peru! I mostly post articles about lighting related topics; Sylvania’s latest energy saving light bulbs, high effeciency electronic ballasts or helping companies reduce their energy bills, but I recently had the opportunity to visit the country of Peru on a family vacation and I felt it was interesting enough to add to our site. Most of our vacations in the past several years have been the usual visits to the Florida attractions in Orlando, a week at Ft Myers Beach, or a few days visiting relatives in the northeast. About a year ago our neighbor Jorge, a native Peruvian, and his wife were considering taking a family trip to Peru to show their 2 teenage children some of the family heritage, the small beach town, Pisco, where Jorge grew up and the surrounding areas. Since our children are similar in ages to Jorge’s children, they spend a lot of time at each of the neighborhood houses and we started talking about the possibility of our family joining the neighbors on their trip to Peru. After some planning and coordinating, our trip plans started to take shape. Jorge contacted a childhood friend, Cesar, who still lives in Peru, and does planning for tour groups and vacationers visiting the sites in Peru. As time went on, two more neighborhood teen friends were added to our group in addition to 2 more relatives meeting up with us in Peru to bring our group total to 13 people (6 adults and 7 teenagers). The pending Rare Earth Metals Shortage is a reason for concern for everyone! Effecting everything from fluorescent light bulbs to hybrid cars to national security. What are Rare Earth Elements ? While these rare earth elements are not actually “rare” in the environment, nor are they “earth”, the name dates to the 18th and 19th centuries, when the elements were first isolated out of actually rare minerals. “Rare earth” stuck, but the elements themselves turned out to be pretty common, mixed in small concentrations in rocks worldwide. A brief history of Rare Earth Elements: Historically, unstable supply and demand and significant price fluctuations have been the norm in the rare earth elements (or rare earth metals) market. The 1980′s saw a rapid increasing demand, followed by a substantial over supply in the early 1990′s. Until the early 1990′s most of the world’s supply of rare earth elements (or rare earth metals) where mined in the USA. China entered the market in the early 90′s and by the late 1990′s China’s low cost production had flooded the market and driven most US companies out of the rare earth mining business. China today produces more that 95% of the world’s rare earth metals supply. Over the last few years, China has started cutting the amount of rare earth metals that they export each year, while global demand has been increasing annually, with the increased demand of rare earth metals used in everything from fluorescent light bulbs, wind turbines, telecommunications, defense technologies, magnets and more. Bradenton/ Sarasota facility renovation nears completion The building renovation for Frontier Lighting’s new local distribution center nears completion. The progress continued at a substantial pace with the help from many trades - electricians, plumbers, an air conditioning company, sheet metal work, drywall, ceiling grid and more. Once completed, the new 20,240 square foot Bradenton, Florida facility will include a 2,000 square foot sales counter area, and a 3,000 square foot office. The sales counter area will be fully stocked with light bulbs, ballasts and light fixtures and more in an open retail format, the office space will include sales offices, a training room and an exercise room for employees. Frontier Lighting’s goal is to use this new facility to increase it’s service level of existing and new accounts in the Sarasota, Bradenton metro area by adding staff and increasing inventory levels at the new facility. Frontier Lighting’s existing Bradenton branch location, about 1/2 mile away, will be vacated and moved into this new location. Frontier Lighting is projecting a scheduled completion date of mid February 2011 and a move in date in March of 2011.
